Nausea is that “queasy” sensation you get in your stomach that makes you feel as if you are about to vomit. I 00004000 t is a common condition that can be caused by a variety of circumstances and conditions.
Feelings of nausea can be caused by constipation, digestive disorders, food poisoning, gallstones, head injury, migraine headaches, side effects of medication, vertigo and viral infections. Often, circumstances, such as over eating and eating too quickly can cause an upset stomach. Other forms of nausea is morning sickness (which often occurs in women during their early months of pregnancy) and motion sickness (often seen in both children and adults).
The most common cause of nausea is gastroenteritis, also referred to as intestinal flu. Technically this illness is not a flu because it is not caused by the influenza virus. Gastroenteritis is normally caused by a viral infection and is over within forty eight hours.
A change in diet may help. Bananas are good. Avoid coffee and juices, especially citrus drinks. Whole-grain cereals, soups and steamed vegetables are good if they can be eaten. Drinking plenty of fluids – clear liquids, including distilled or bottled water – and munching occasionally on soda crackers may help.
The suggested nutritional supplements listed below can relieve nausea. If, however, you begin suffering severe nausea or prolonged (more than 3 days) nausea for no apparent reason, you need to see your doctor.
Natural Remedies:
1. Acidophilus helps restore bacterial balance in the digestive tract. Take one dose 3 times daily for one week. Follow package label for dosage information.
2. Basil tea is an old English remedy for nausea. Take 1/2 ounce of dry basil plus one cup of boiling water, steeped for 5 minutes and strained. Medical herbalists use basil as an antispasmodic to aid digestion, settle the stomach and to relieve nausea.
3. Cinnamon may help relieve nausea and other intestinal upsets. Take as a tea, drink 3 times a day.
4. Clove tea is a traditional, tasty remedy for nausea. Take 10 cloves in 12 ounces of boiling water, steeped 10 minutes and strained.
5. Fennel seed can help calm the waves of morning sickness that appear on their own particular schedule. Fresh fennel seeds can be kept in a small plastic bag for periodic munching.
6. Ginger relieves the symptoms of nausea in motion sickness, morning sickness and in chemotherapy. Use a standardized brand of ginger extract. Take 250 milligram capsules 30 minutes before traveling and again every 4 hours for motion sickness. Otherwise, take 250 milligram capsule or tablet 3 times daily. Take on an empty stomach. Ginger ale or ginger snaps may work if your symptoms are mild.
7. Goldenseal may suppress nausea associated with intestinal infections by destroying the organisms responsible for the symptoms. Take 125 milligram capsule every 4 hours as needed to calm an upset stomach. Goldenseal may also be taken as a tea.
8. Licorice root tea helps sooth an unsettled stomach. Follow package directions.
9. Peppermint relieves nausea by aiding digestion and reducing intestinal spasms by relaxing muscles in the digestive tract. Drink up to 3 cups of tea daily.
10. Red raspberry leaf tea has long been used by herbalist to be helpful in pregnancy. Physicians in England and Europe prescribe a number of red raspberry leaf tea preparations for uterine irritability, threatened miscarriage and morning sickness. A tea made with 2 teaspoons of dried herb and allowed to steep for 10 to 15 minutes can be taken as needed. Two to four milliliters of tincture can be taken three times daily.
11. Rosemary leaves and twigs calm the digestive tract, particularly when an upset stomach is related to tension and anxiety. A tea made of 1 to 2 teaspoons of dried herb and allowed to steep for 10 to 15 minutes or 1/2 milliliter of a tincture can be taken 3 times daily.
12. Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) helps relieve nausea. For morning sickness take 10 to 25 milligrams three times daily. For motion sickness take 100 milligrams one hour before the trip followed by 100 milligrams two hours later.
Other traditional tummy settling herbal teas include anise, chamomile, dill, lemon balm, lime flowers and meadowsweet. In addition, these herbs all have many different health benefits.

QUESTION:
Morning sickness remedies when you’re still hiding your pregnancy?
I’m starting to get mild morning sickness at work during the day. Not running to the bathroom, but feeling queasy and dizzy. I’m only seven weeks along, so I haven’t announced yet. I’m worried that the secret will get out if people start noticing me stuffing my face with saltine crackers or eating ginger–you know, those well-known morning sickness remedies. Already I’ve had to make up a reason for having a huge box of saltines in my desk drawer (I’m on a soup kick!).Does anyone know any good remedies for morning sickness that are not so well known, so I can fly under the radar for just a few more weeks?
-
ANSWER:
There are pressure points in the web of your hand (between the thumb and first finger) if you press into the center of the meaty part it can help.Vitamin B-6 also helps 35 mg every few hours as needed.
Never be full, but never be empty. Snack alot. Have a drawer full of “snack size” crackers, pretzels, carrots, celery. If anyone asks you are on a diet. It looks pretty much the same. Small portions of healthy foods.
Keep away:
Foods that smell strongly, tea (because of the tanic acid) and Coffee (also due to the acid, not the caffeine) can add to the nausea. Also, nausea can be contributed to constipation which is very common in pregnancy. Be sure to drink plenty of water so you keep going.

QUESTION:
What are home remedies for morning sickness?
I’m 9 weeks and 5 days pregnant and this morning sickness is really kicking my butt. Is their any Home remedies i can do to stop the sickness being so bad?-
ANSWER:
The most important thing right now is to stay hydrated. You really don’t want to be dehydrated, so drink as much as possible. Take small sips so as not to overwhelm your stomach. Water can sometimes hurt an empty stomach, so try ginger ale with the bubbles stirred out (carbonation can also hurt your stomach), powerade or gatorade, or juice, if you can manage it.If you do get dehydrated, don’t wait–go to the emergency room and get fluids intravenously. It’s not fun, but it will make you feel better and break the vicious cycle of dehydration.
Other things that might work for you are popsicles or ices, and fruit–a lot of miserably pregnant women find that they CAN eat fruit, so try out different kinds if that appeals at all. For me, I found that I could eat (at different times) strawberries, grapefruit, and thinly sliced golden delicious apples. It was weirdly specific, but it kept me alive!
You should try having very small “meals”–a bite of a cracker here and there when you can stomach it. A lot of people find that keeping crackers or something light next to their bed and taking a few bites before they even get out of bed in the morning. You will feel worse if your stomach is empty, so keeping food in it–even just a little bit–will help stave off the misery.
You might also want to try adding peanut butter to your crackers. Peanut butter has protein, which will make you feel better if you can keep it down.
If nothing else works, ask your doctor for medication like reglan or zofran to help.
Good luck!

QUESTION:
Anyone know any good remedies for morning sickness?
Hi there, I am 8 weeks pregnant and have been feeling really ill this past couple of weeks. I’m not new to this pregnancy thing at all as this is my fourth child, but I have never experienced morning sickness, fortunately! I’m not actually vomitting but am feeling constantly nausiated no matter what I eat or drink, and it is not just the mornings, it can be all through the day until I go to bed at night!
I would love to know if anyone has any natural remedies for this. I do know that everyone is different and some things work for some and not others, but I would really appreciate your help.
I would prefer not to take any pills of any sort, if possible. Thanks-
ANSWER:
green tea is nice for morning sickness.
healthy too.
sometimes milk helps but it might not do so well.
crackers help alot too.
maybe some plain toast? alot like a cracker.
eating a shaving of fresh ginger whenever a wave of nausea hits works really well. you can buy it in a little plastic container wherever sushi is sold.
potato chips go down well and feel good while they are there! do not eat the fat-free potato chips with
that newly approved fat substitute in them, olestra, this substance has been proven to carry important nutrients out of your body, before they can be digested. the salt and
vinegar chips can ease nausea especially well and here is why. many women experience a lot of queasiness and morning sickness during pregnancy because their saliva glands excrete more saliva than usual. all the excess saliva in the mouth makes you feel sick. the salt and vinegar on the potato chips dries up the excess saliva. thus, it reduces or totally eliminates the queasiness and morning sickness.

QUESTION:
Remedies for morning sickness?
Hey everyone,Does anyone have any *natural* remedies that will help with morning sickness in dogs?
Would love to hear what other people have used and how it works. Natural remedies are definitely preferred, but any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks in advance!
Thanks everyone. I will definitely try the frequently small meals. She never had any morning sickness during her other pregnancy. Luckily she has not thrown up in my lap!Just to be clear, I do not necessarily mean that it’s in the morning. It actually usually is later in the day.
-
ANSWER:
Small frequent meals. I think it keeps the stomach from filling up with stomach acid.Every blasted pregnant b*tch I’ve ever had has walked up to me after drinking water with the “I don’t feel good” look on their face… and then puked in my lap or on my shoes. Frequent small meals helps.. even if it’s just a few kibbles of dog food.

QUESTION:
any other remedies for morning sickness?
are there any other remedies for morning sickness other than ginger, peppermint, and b vitamin? (i know all the tips for reliving it) but i want to see if there are any other herbs or something that can help.i CANNOT throw up.i have SEVERE emetophobia and will completly break down if i do.
NO medication.alternative health only-
ANSWER:
I had this bad for 26 weeks and was throwing up every couple of hours or thereabouts, so I very much sympathise with you. I found a few things worked to help reduce the intensity of this (though didn’t alleviate it completely).1) Homeopathy – you will need to see a properly trained homeopath who will take a case history so that they can individually tailor what will work best for you. It’s different for everyone, even for the same symptoms.
2) Morning well tape – it’s a rhythmic tune that works on the inner ear and helps to reduce sickness. http://www.morningsicknessrelief.com/MorningWell.html
3) Sea bands – worn on the wrists they act on pressure points that again for some people can help with sickness (travel sickness and morning sickness alike).
4) Try to see if any particular things trigger your own sickness. I found that for me glucose set me off (only when I was pregnant, I was fine once I gave birth), so I switched to fructose instead and that really helped
Good luck!

Any good home remedies for morning sickness?
My wife has morning sickness bad. We have tried everything so want that it not common that we have not tried.-

Just recently, companies have started to incorporate therapeutic doses of Vitamin B6 into their products to help you cure your morning sickness. One is B-Natal TheraPops are cherry flavored lollipops which have been shown to help cure morning sickness for many women. Another Vitamin B-6 enriched product is called Morning Sickness Magic. Morning Sickness Magic is a herbal remedy containing Ginger, Vitamin B-6, Red Raspberry Leaf and Folic Acid.
* Avoid warm places as heat can increase the nausea feelings.
* Take naps during the day (but not right after eating). Tiredness plays a big part in morning sickness.
* Get enough sleep at night.
* Get out of bed slowly in the morning.
* Try eating plain crackers or dry cereal before you get out of bed in the morning.
* Open windows or turn on exhaust fans when cooking and after meals.
* Cooking in the microwave usually produces less odors.
* Ginger in capsules form 250 mg. three times daily can be beneficial. Ginger has long been associated with alleviating nausea. You can also get the benefit of using ginger by chewing on crystallized ginger or sucking on ginger hard candies.
* Silly as it sounds, carry a handkerchief with a few drops of a non nausea causing essential oil (lemon for example) in it and breath through it if you can’t get away from the smell that is bothering you.
* Avoid greasy or spicy foods as they often cause nausea or heartburn.
* Eat what you want when you want it. Your cravings will not lead you the wrong way.
* Have frequent protein snacks. (Low fat meats and seafood, nuts, eggs and beans are high protein.)

* Do not drink fluids with your meals.
* Non caffeinated teas like peppermint and ginger can help came nausea.
* Drink small amounts of fluids regularly though out the day to avoid dehydration.
* Do not skip meals if you can help it.
* Try taking your prenatal vitamins later in the day. Pregnancy Plus prenatal vitamins are smaller in size and are less likely to upset your stomach. You may also want to consider taking your prenatal vitamin at night before you go to bed to give it a chance to be absorbed overnight.
* Avoid spicy and fried food – both eating and smelling it can increase your nausea.
* Cold food may have less nausea inducing smells associated with them.
Doctor Prescribed Medications
If your morning sickness is severe enough, your doctor may prescribe medication that will help you reclaim some normality in your life. If you are unable to keep food or water down for any length of time, PLEASE talk to your doctor to see what can be done. Extensive weight loss / dehydration can be harmful to both mom and baby. Your doctor will be able to evaluate your situation and health profile and decide which medication will be most helpful in giving you morning sickness relief. The medications prescribed are administered in three different ways depending on the severity of the morning sickness and the medication: orally, intravenously, and in suppository format. For an extensive listing of the medications which can be prescribed for severe morning sickness relief, please visit Hyperemesis.org.

What are your morning sickness remedies?
Ok I just found out I was pregnant this morning. Woo hoo for me! I have two already 13 and 8 and let me tell you, I had all day sickness for 3 months and it was terrible. I tried the crackers and ginger ale but those never worked. Now that I have yahoo answers this time around, I’m wondering ladies, what has worked for you??? I’d like to prepare myself for the coming weeks.thanks
-
ANSWER:
Congrats. Let’s hope this time you escape the morning sickness (it can happen). I’ve had three pregnancies, one with brutal sickness for 3 months, one with medium sickness and one with minimal. In case you don’t escape it, here are some things that helped me…
- take vitamin on a full stomach, never on an empty stomach
- if you can’t stomach the vitamin try just taking folic acid during the worst of it
- never let your stomach get empty, try the crackers again, keep them everywhere
- try those preggie pops or whatever those suckers at motherhood store are called
- most gingerale doesn’t actually contain any real ginger, try making your own ginger tea, or try ginger tablets from the healthfood store
- eat what your feel like you can handle
- if you can’t manage with these, I would go to your Dr. and ask for medication. I went on diclectin (I think this is only in Canada, but I’ve heard there is something similar in the States). It made me tired but really helped with the morning sickness.Good Luck!

QUESTION:
morning sickness remedies?
I’ve been feeling horribly nauseous for weeks. Does anybody know any home remedies for morning sickness? Ginger hasn’t worked, and munching on saltines just makes me feel full and nauseous. Has anyone tried the sea-bands? Do they work?-
ANSWER:
Sea bands didn’t work for me. I still wear them occassionally hoping they’ll up and start working but so far, they’re a no-go. Saltines and ginger ale/sprite also make me more nauseas. I wish I could find a home remedy that actually works. Of course you can take benadryl or something over the counter for nausea but I hate taking medicines. I guess I’m just going to tough mine out. Good luck.

What are some quick remedies for morning sickness?
I’m at work and am feeling really nauseated. I haven’t vomited (yet). Any ideas on what I can do?
I’m at work, so I need some advice on what I can do NOW. Thanks!-
ANSWER:
Eat, eat, eat. Try to keep something in your stomach at all times to cut down on nausea. I find that bland foods (crackers, cereal, toast, etc) work better than spicy, greasy, or sour ones. Also, I find that things that are heavy on protein seem to help (nuts, peanut butter, cheese, yogurt, milk, meat, etc). Also, one person said to try 7-Up or Sprite, but I find that carbonation makes things worse — you’ll have to figure out what works for you. Good luck!

Everyone one told me ginger, but it didn’t work for me.
You can buy some sweets called preggypops on the web which are supposed to work. I found that juicy fruity chewy sweets helped me.
When you can eat, have very little very often. You could also try ice lollys, arrowroot biscuits, banana & apple.
I went to the doctor and got some antiacid stuff that really helped & cyclizine pills which are antisickness and safe to take in early pregnancy. Only take things perscribed by your doctor. Please don’t use over the counter medicine as it may not be safe for you to take.

ANSWER:
There are some wrist bands that you can wear. They are at Walmart in the pharmacy dept (where the motion sickness meds are) (if you don’t see them ask the pharmacy staff). They work very well (they apply slight pressure to your pressure points on your wrists) and are recommended for morning and motion sickness. I was having HORRIBLE morning sickness and I bought them, nausea disappeared. It is best to wear them BEFORE you start to feel nauseated because it prevents it rather then after you start to feel bad; they will still work but it takes about 30 minutes before you will start to feel better. I liked them because the LAST thing I wanted ( while I was nauseated) was something in my mouth.

ANSWER:
I was very sick for about 8-10 weeks with this pregnancy…over it now! woohoo! But the one thing that worked the best was when I first got out of bed I would make a cup of hot chocolate. It was a thicker drink, so it put something in my belly which helped…but it was easier to keep down than solid food. also…animal crackers went down fairly well…and sucking on lollipops (I used tootsie pops) helped calm the nausea for me.

QUESTION:
Morning Sickness Remedies?
I need some natural morning sickness remedies as I just discovered I’m highly allergic to most of the medicines (Maxolon) they prescribe, Im currently 9wks pregnant and vomiting about 5-6 times per day and i also have no appetite which makes it worse as the hunger pains make me feel sick too. I really need to sort this out as i have a toddler to look after as well-
ANSWER:
Maxolon isn’t the only anti-nausea drug available, so go back to your doctor and tell them that you want something else. I had prescriptions for both Maxolon and Stemetil. There are some things you can do at home aswell to try and ease your nausea. Every pregnancy is different and every woman has an intolerance to a different kind of food, for me it was meat. I found ginger beer helped with the nausea, and I just ate whatever I could manage. Forcing yourself to eat will only make it worse. Your body will let you know when you are ready to eat. It should be over in a couple of weeks, mine ended the day I was 12 weeks, so just hang in there!!!!

I found that eating food that was either really cold (like ice cream/frozen yogurt) or really hot helped curb the gagging reflex. Also, you could try Preggie Pops–they’re made is flavors that have scientifically been found to be more tolerable to the queasy mom-to-be’s palate (started as a product for chemo patients):

QUESTION:
are there any home remedies to help with morning sickness?
my wife is often very sick in the morning and sometimes all through the day… is there anything she can use that is all natural to help her through this… we prefer all natural stuff cause we wanna do what’s best for the baby, so are their any teas or anything at all that can help her out?-
ANSWER:
Absolutely no pills. As long as she is still taking her prenatals the baby is getting what it needs right now. But if she’s really sick, buy her some saltine crackers and have them next to her at bed and before she even sits up in the morning and gets out of bed, she should eat a few crackers to help soothe her stomach.
There are certain teas out there that are bad for mom and baby right now so she should talk to her doctor before taking any of those. What’s best for baby is just getting the proper vitamins (in prenatals) fruits, veggies, fiber, water, juice. And anything your wife is craving, let her have it, except if it’s like dirt or leaves or something, then that’s bad and she should go to the doctor. If her body is craving any kind of food, whether you think it’s healthy or not, it means her body is low on something and she needs it in her body. She shouldn’t eat a lot of it, but if she’s craving egg salad sandwiches and potato salad or something or potato chips all at once, she needs protein and that’s why her body is making her want it. Cravings are a good thing because your body is telling you it’s lacking something the baby and you need so give into them. Just don’t pig out.
For the “all natural stuff” with teas and everything, you should talk to your doctor first because a lot of that stuff isn’t healthy for a pregnant mom and a growing baby.

QUESTION:
Any remedies for morning sickness?
I can’t take it all day at work- I will try anything.-
ANSWER:
I felt like that when I was pregnant with my daughter… There isn’t much that can be done but here is what helped me take off enough of an edge to get through the days…I wore sea sickness bracelets.
I had a VERY COLD iced tea & bag of Herr’s Choc covered pretzels every single morning.
I kept snacks like a bagel, fruit, nuts, granola bars, etc at my desk all day and forced myself to eat one of those snacks every time the nausea was heading into “porelain throne” worthy territory.
I made sure to keep pretzels by my bed so I could snack on a few every time I woke up to go pee, or in the morning before I got up.
And I just kept telling myself that time will wash away the all day 24/7 what am I doing having a kid nausea…
Good Luck!!!
Oh, this time I am finding that Jolly Ranchers (specifically Cherry) are helping calm sudden urges to run for the restroom…

Anyone know any remedies for morning sickness (which lasts all day!) ?
I’m suffering with sickness all the time and i was hoping for some magical remedies that do not involve medication.-
ANSWER:
try those bracelets that sailors use. i’m not sure what they’re called, but they are like rubber bands with a bead on them that puts pressure on your wrist to help calm sea sickness.other suggestions are to make sure you have food in your tummy. sometimes just a few crackers will do the trick. ginger ale seemed to help me, too.
hopefully, it will pass soon. good luck!

QUESTION:
Morning Sickness remedies?
I’m about 9 weeks pregnant and am feeling sick virtually all the time, morning, noon and night. Has anyone got any remedies that work to try to stop this constant nausea? I’ve been told ginger tea and ginger nuts but no luck there, in fact the ginger tea is making me gag just smelling it. (Lovely I know!)
Thanks Mr Awesome you are such a worthy human being… not-
ANSWER:
i got bad norning sickness when i first found out i was pregnant and i was told ginger biscuits helped, and they didnt do alot for me either, but as its difficult to eat whilst feeling ill, as the smell of everything else makes you feel worse, so it would be worth finding some sort of biscuit or dry food that you could constantly nibble on throughout the day as eating little but often eased it a bit for me! i used to eat plain digestives and also mini cheddars! i wouldnt say it stopped it completely! but it helped, atleast you no this feeling will not last long i am due in 9 days now and havnt had any nausea really since the beginning, should def be gone by 12 weeks! good luck! also drink lots of water! that helps everything!

QUESTION:
Home remedies for morning sickness?
I’m only 6 weeks pregnant and have been suffering with morning sickness since shortly after becoming pregnant… which is unusual. I’m not vomiting but I can not eat. I get so hungry that I can’t think but if I look at food or try to eat I get extremely queasy and light headed. A few times I even start gagging and barely manage to not vomit. With my last pregnancy all I had to do was sip some gatorade and would feel better. I want to know what your remedies are/ were, or what you ate that was easier to digest. Thanks!-
Good luck!

ANSWER:
Maybe this link can help you:http://www.mothernature.com/Library/Bookshelf/Books/48/137.cfm
Here are some more:
Eat soda crackers 15 minutes before getting up in the morning,Eat small meals often (for example, every 2 hours).
Drink fluids 1/2 hour before a meal, or 1/2 hour after a meal. (Do not drink during meals.)
Drink enough fluids during the day to avoid dehydration. (Drink small amounts each time.)
Do not hesitate to eat whatever you feel like eating, this is not the time to diet.
Do not hesitate to eat whenever you feel you can.
Get up slowly and do not lie down right after eating, this may trigger nausea and heartburn.
Do not skip meals if you can help it.
Avoid cooking or eating spicy and fried food.
Try eating cold food instead of hot. (Cold food may not smell as strong as hot food)
Get plenty of rest. Try napping during the day. (The condition tends to worsen if you are tired.)
Sniffing lemons or ginger, drinking lemonade, or eating watermelon sometimes relieves nausea.
As weird as this sounds, some woman have found that eating salty potato chips has been found to help settle stomachs enough to eat a meal.
Drinking carbonated ginger ale and/or club soda and eating Melba toasts really helped to settle my stomach, during my morning sickness “attacks”.

QUESTION:
remedies for morning sickness?
My daughter is 8 wks pregnant and is having terrible morning sickness. She says she feels fine when she first gets up, but after she eats breakfast, she gets really sick. I told her to try the crackers and water before she gets up ,but that doesn’ t help either, she has gotten pills from her Dr. and that don’t help either.
Her husband has a friend who does Acupuncture and he suggested a herbal remedy that you spread on crackers and eat before you get up in the A.M. This is her second pregnancy and she can’t remember being this sick before. She works in the CCU as a R.N. and luckily they understand as she can’t work when she is this sick. Has anyone ever heard of Acupuncture for nausea during pregnancy?-
ANSWER:
Never heard of this before. Unfortunately morning sickness is not something that you can really escape if you get it. You could try using Bath and Body Work’s peppermint oil. I think peppermint is supposed to help. Also, have her try Sea Bands….wrist bands with a little button on them to help stop nausea by applying pressure to certain points on your wrists. Some people swear by them. They may look a little silly, but if they work, she’s probably won’t care! You can get them at the pharmacy, probably walmart too. Good luck and congratulations!

QUESTION:
My morning sickness is decreasing my appetite?
I’ve been having morning sickness for about the past week, and found out that I’m 4 weeks pregnant last Thursday……. I’ve been miserable, and on top of it all, it’s like my appetite has gone away. I’m hardly eating anything, and that worries me.What can I do? I’m pregnant- I SHOULD be eating, not starving! Are there any homemade remedies for morning sickness that will help get my appetite back to normal? IS this normal?
-
ANSWER:
i’d call your dr and ask to be prescribed some medication to help your morning sickness.other then that, try eating small snacks through out the day.
ive found pretzels, almonds, any type of bland cereal, saltines, dry toast, ginger ale ect all seem to help keep the morning sickness to a min.also, don’t eat 3 big meals, instead, eat 5 smaller meals through out the day.
i think i heard somewhere once that if you microwave more food, its easier to eat because when you cook food you get more of the smells, which can trigger the sickness more.good luck hunny
