1-Take the day off:
It is the logic thing to do; you know there is no point of going to the work and you know you will not be in the shape to perform your job probably the fever and the headache will affect your quality of performance and reduce your productivity. Besides you need the rest; your body is going through a battle and needs every resource it has to overcome the flu virus. So you could call in sick 2day and sleep more couples of hours this morning.
Another reason to take the day of, you are coughing and sneezing you are like the Typhoid Mary, spreading the virus everywhere. Believe me it is the responsible thing to do towards yourself, work colleagues and towards your job.
2- Eat and drink:
I know you are feeling bad and don’t have the appetite to eat anything but eating will make you feel better. Have a good healthy breakfast full of vegetables and fruits to give you vitamins and minerals, and don’t forget carbs and proteins to give your body energy source.
It is important to drink a lot of fluid to prevent dehydration. Hot fluids like ginger tea and hot lemon will improve your sore throat.

3- What medicine Might help you to get through of the day?
Know you are just before the noon, you slept 2 more hours than usual, your body had more rest, you’ve found the book you wanted to read for so long and didn’t have the time to and you just need something to overcome the symptoms.
- Acetaminophen is safe to use. It is analgesic decreasing the body aches and the headache. Also it is antipyretic drug decreases the fever.
- You could use one of those antihistaminic drugs combined with caffeine (to prevent its unwanted sedative effects). It will help with the sneezing especially if you have allergic nose.
- Decongested nasal sprays are magical. But abusing it may cause hypertrophy in your nasal mucosa causing rebound congestion when you stop using the spray.
- You could use mucolytics and expectorants if your cough is dry and painful. They dissolve the mucus secretion makin it easier to expel.
- Vitamin C supplements.
4- Afternoon hot shower:
After spending the rest of morning resting on the bed or the couch, you have almost finished your book, taken your medicine, drinking a lot of hot fluids and it is time for afternoon nap. Don’t forget to take a hot shower it will make you feel much better and make you sleep more comfortably. Hot steams will clear your sinuses, act like decongestant for your nasal and respiratory mucosa opening your airways. Hot water will relax your muscles reducing the muscle aches.
After waking of the nape don’t forget you are probably feeling much better than the morning but you are still having a cold. Continue to rest and drink a lot of hot fluid. Enjoy watching your favorite TV show or read another book. And before bed time you could take another dose of over the counter medications to decrease the symptoms and help you sleep better such as acetaminophen as analgesic drug, nasal decongestant and cough suppressant to decreases the cough and may have little sedative effect.
