You say “Wow! I am pregnant!” Then you remember all the tales you have heard about morning sickness and nausea in the first trimester of pregnancy. As one of the most talked about pregnancy symptoms, morning sickness is really not all that bad. In fact, some lucky women hardly experience it, while some do. It invariably passes off by the end of the first trimester of pregnancy. If you just discovered you are pregnant, then here are a few tips that can help you tackle it with ease.
Prenatal vitamins
Prenatal vitamins contain valuable iron that you need when you are pregnant. But this very same iron can trigger nausea. You may want to try a different brand of prenatal vitamins or go on a low iron formula during the first trimester pregnancy. Also, change the timing of the day when you take it. Try taking your vitamin with something other than water, like in a spoon of pudding.
Snack in bed
This one really helped me. Keep a couple of dry, high carb crackers or toast handy. The moment you wake up, sit up and eat them. Get out of bed half an hour later. Remember not to drink any water. This literally keeps off morning sickness. An additional benefit is resolving heartburn, which is an uncomfortable pregnancy symptom.
Watch what you eat before bedtime
Don’t have sugary stuff at bedtime. This makes your blood sugar drop and encourages nausea. Instead go for high protein stuff like yogurt. It relieves tiredness as well.
Ginger really helps
Natural ginger added to tea or your dessert dish stops morning sickness. You can also go in for ginger ale or ginger capsules.
Slow and steady
Each time you rise after a nap, go slow. Rushing out of bed can wake up that morning sickness in a hurry.
Smell it
Aromatherapy can keep off morning sickness. Try essential oils like lavender or peppermint sprinkled on your handkerchief. When you feel nauseous, inhale it a couple of times.
Stay away from nausea triggers
Often, the smell of different foods can cause morning sickness, as can riding an elevator, heat, the sight of a computer screen, etc. You need to identify these and avoid them.
These are some of the effective ways in which you can avoid morning sickness during your first trimester pregnancy. Do not suffer morning sickness quietly. Keep yourself informed about how you can have a healthy pregnancy, ensuring your health, as well as your baby’s.

QUESTION:
When did you first get morning sickness? How many weeks were you?
I am just coming up to 6weeks pregnant on Sunday and cant believe it happened so fast, It took us just 4 months to conceive. Only I remember when I was pregnant with my son I was as sick as a dog morning, noon and night. So far I haven’t had any sickness, I just feel dizzy spells, I am taking vitamin supplements for pregnant women. And I don’t feel pregnant, I have to keep taking pregnancy tests to make sure. Can you remember how many weeks you were, when you first began to actually be sick.
Thanks ladies x-
ANSWER:
First of all, you don’t have to be sick!! Not all women have “morning” sickness, so don’t accept it as fact. Usually, if you’re expecting to be sick, you greatly increases your chances of actually getting sick!To specifically answer your question, I was a little nauseous starting around 7 weeks, but never actually puked, just had an upset stomach. In lasted maybe 2 weeks.
Think positively and good luck!

QUESTION:
How many of you had morning sickness with first pregnancy?
Just trying to see if morning sickness is more common that not in first pregnancies, also, does anyone have any idea why morning sickness actually occurs? Thanks-
ANSWER:
I had morning sickness throughout the first 6 months of my first pregnancy. It was pretty bad. I was nauseous quite a bit. I threw up, but not that often. I am now on my second pregnancy (19 wks) and still get nauseous but (thank goodness) have only thrown up once! And sorry to say, I am not sure why, exactly, we get it.
I do have to add a comment here, though. I think that perhaps more women who have had morning sickness are going to answer this question than those who have not – possibly skewing your poll. If you haven’t experienced morning sickness, you might not even “click” on this question because it doesn’t relate to you. Just trying to account for any possible inaccuracies in your data search.

QUESTION:
No Morning Sickness with first pregnancy?
I am 7 weeks along in my first pregancy, and am feeling no morning sickness. I’ve had other symptoms, but no sickness. Im actually feeling the best I’ve ever felt! I seem to have alot of energy (most of the time) It just concerns me b/c supposubly morning sickness is much healthier (thats what i’ve heard). What could be some possible culprits? Should I be worried at all, or just enjoy?-
ANSWER:
Let’s see with my two pregnancies my morning sickness didn’t start until i was about 8 weeks pregnant. With the first one i gained all together 25 lbs. (i learned my lesson). With the second one I lost 15 lbs. during the first 4 months then gained it back so i ended up thinner than when i got pregnant. I had two healthy baby boys and believe me both pregnancies were different. Enjoy your pregnancy and no matter if your sick or not your baby will be fine. I think i had more energy with my second one because i would go for walks in the afternoon and kept myself busy. Enjoy!

QUESTION:
When did you first get nausea & morning sickness?
I am 6.5 weeks along and am starting to get queasy. I am curious: when in your pregnancy did you first get morning sickness and at what point did it stop? Thank you!-
ANSWER:
I got it at 6 weeks and 1 day, and it ended at 32 weeks. I had to be admitted to hospital 6 times during my pregnancy as I was spewing up 24 hours a day and couldn’t keep anything down at all.
If you get acid reflux, have a glass of milk before you lie down at night. For the nausea, try ginger, acupuncture, and dry food like toast, crackers etc. Also, the one thing that is a total fail safe is marijuana, well they give it to cancer patients! I don’t know how you feel about that but seriously, it works like magic. The only problem is it makes you tired. I hate the stuff, but I will give it the credit that it really does take away all nausea and vomiting.Usually the “morning” sickness lasts until 14 weeks. And it doesn’t have anything to do with hCG as I kept getting negative pregnancy tests until I was almost due for my second period (i.e- I had very low hCG levels) but I was pregnant at that time and I had the morning sickness too.
Try to keep your blood sugar levels up as that can cause nausea too. Try to eat as soon as you can in the morning to head it off. Work out what triggers you off and avoid those things (usually certain smells etc.)
Good Luck, and I’m sure it’ll wear off within the first trimester.

QUESTION:
Did you take Ondansetron for morning sickness during your first trimester?
My first ob/gyn appointment isn’t for a few weeks, but my primary physician gave me a prescription for morning sickness due to my inability to keep anything down. SHe said to try not to take it if possible, but I have been in bed for a week straight and can’t even function. I’m wondering what an ob/gyn might think of this medicine and what the risks to the baby are…
Please help.-
ANSWER:
I had to take it through my whole pregnancy due to a condition called hyperemesis, which is basically a fancy way of describing a pregnant woman who can’t stop throwing up. It sounds like that might be what you have as well. You will be very lucky to get it, because it is crazy expensive. It’s about 700 for a months worth of pills. They were my life saver though and my daughter is almost 4 months and completely healthy! I hope you feel better soon!

QUESTION:
Was morning sickness your first symptom?
I’ve been feeling nauseous for the past 4 days… but my period isn’t due until Friday. I heard that many women experience morning sickness 2 weeks after conception; is it possible for that to be the only symptom at the moment? My breasts aren’t swollen or tender…oh but I have been feeling slight cramping for the past few days along with nausea. Did anyone have morning sickness before their missed period, and then the other symptoms kick in after their missed period?-

QUESTION:
If you got morning sickness with your first did you also with your 2nd?
I got terrible morning sickness the 1st 3 months of my pregnancy. I think it had a little to do with my diet at that time, we didn’t have a lot of money so we were eating a lot of crap like ramen noodles.
If you got morning sickness with your 1st did you also with your second?
I have a stomach bug today that’s just making me remember how I found out I was pregnant in the first place.-
ANSWER:
I have had 4 babies in the last 5 years, and each pregnancy was different. With my son I had the worst nausea for the entire 39 weeks. With each of my girls I had mild-moderate morning sickness only during the first trimester.Every pregnancy can be very different, but usually there will be some similarities throughout. You know your own body so trust yourself, and take a pregnancy test if it’ll make you feel better.

QUESTION:
What were the first signs your morning sickness was going away?
I’m 10 weeks pregnant and have suffered from morning sickness 24/7 for the last month. However, yesterday I went 4 whole hours without even feeling nauseous! Is that a sign I’m reaching the end of the tunnel?-
ANSWER:
It could be, but be aware it could still take awhile.
I knew I was tapering off when I didn’t vomit first thing in the morning like usual. It would hold off to lunch time then eventually later and later. Then it was every other day and then it was just once in awhile. I didn’t start tapering off until around 16 weeks, but every woman is different. I hope you are beginning this process, because I know how much it stinks. To me it was the worst part of pregnancy. I am 38 weeks now and in a lot of pain, but I would still take the pain over vomiting.
Congrats on the baby.

QUESTION:
Did u have morning sickness with your first pregnancy? what about the next baby?
My daughter is 6 months old and im thinking about getting pregnant again in a few more months..maybe 3-6 months..but anyways im sooooo afraid to be pregnant again cus i had severe hyperemesis )which is bad morning sickness) when i was pregnant with her, so now im so afraid of trying for another baby! if u had bad morning sickness with your first baby, how did it go with the 2nd one? thanks !!
oh one other thing did u have a boy or girl with your sickness if u had any?-
ANSWER:
I had hyperemesis with my first pregnancy. I lost 25 lbs. I was sick every day & took nausea medicine daily. He was born healthy. I had no intentions of having anymore. I didn’t want to be that sick again. But I ended up pregnant just before my oldest turned 1. My second pregnancy was much worse. My hyperemesis was so bad that I had to have a PICC line inserted in my arm. I took Zofran every 4 hours & administered IV fluids twice a day from 10 weeks until he was born prematurely at 34 weeks. My doctors have advised me not to get pregnant again because the chances of the baby surviving would be much smaller. They told me that TRUE hyperemesis will get worse with every pregnancy – just morning sickness is another thing.Just be prepared if you decide to do it again. I had no idea that it vould get that bad & was totally unprepared. I love both of my boys but I would never go through it again.

QUESTION:
What are the first signs of pregnancy before the morning sickness?
I’m trying to get pregnant and I was just wondering what some of the first signs are before actually getting morning sickness.
Another thing I just thought of… When should I stop smoking. I’ve been through a lot of hard things lately and the smoking helps…..-
ANSWER:
Sore breasts and exhaustion.*You should stop smoking immediately. If you are successful before the pregnancy, then you will gifting your child with a clean nurturing womb. Nicotine causes blood vessel constriction. In the unborn, this can be very damaging and can result in low birth weight, and other issues from the lack of oxygen. I commend you on your foresight and I hope that you find a program that works. Ask your doctor for assistance, there are new prescriptions that can make it easier for you to lay down the smokes.

QUESTION:
If i got morning sickness with my first child will i get it with my second?
When i was pregnant with my first child i thought i had got away with no morning sickness, unfortunatly it got me around the end of my fist trimester and i got it bad!! was sick all day for about 6 weeks! I am 6 weeks pregnant now and although i feel a little green in the mornings, it hasn’t hit yet. Has anyone had morninh sickness with one pregnancy and not another?? i know its all part of being pregnant but i fear it more than giving birth!-
ANSWER:
No, every pregnancy can be different. Some say it depends on the gender of the baby and how the hormones interact between mom and baby. In my family it seems…the boys make you beautiful and the girls make you sick, tired and bloated. One thing IS for sure…your sense of smell and taste will be enhanced. You can smell like a hound dog when you’re pregnant
. Certain smells and/or foods can trigger sickness. Try eating saltines when you’re feeling nausea…the salt may help to calm the sensation.

QUESTION:
Did you have morning sickness with your first child but not with your second?
I hear that every pregnancy is different. With my first son I was violently ill from about 5-16 weeks. I am crossing my fingers that when I conceive again I will not have the same experience. Just curious about your experiences and how unique each pregnancy is. Thanks for sharing!-
ANSWER:
Yes it is different each time. The main cause of morning sickness is a combination of issues related to the chemical changes your body is going through. Mix a pinch of nutmeg powder with a table spoon of gooseberry juice, and take it thrice a day. Sip little by little ginger juice mixed with honey before you get out of bed. QUESTION:
It is possible for the same woman to have morning sickness with the first 2 pregnancies but none with the 3rd?
I am 5 weeks pregnant with our third, and no sickness yet! It seemed to start about 4 weeks with my other two.
I am 5 weeks along with my 3rd, but morning sickness had already started at 4 weeks with my other two. I know every pregnancy is different, but since my body is the same, shouldn’t I be having morning sickness?-
ANSWER:
Hormone levels are different with every pregnancy wchich can cause you to be more or less sick each time. My first I had no sickness, I wasn’t very tired, she will be 1 yr old on Sunday so it hasn’t been long, but now I am 17 1/2 weeks pregnant and had the most severe morning sickness I lost weight for the first 2 OB appointments because I was so sick, I have been extreemly tired so much that they checked my thyroid, for enemia and low iron, all of which checked out to be perfect. This pregnancy is totally the opposit of my last and it’s only been a year.
Everything about my body is the same, I was almost the exact same weight starting both pregnancies, same activity levels, same job, same diet everything, just different pregnancies!
Good luck to you, cross your fingers that you won’t get morning sickness!!
Congrats!

QUESTION:
morning sickness/first trimester?
is it possible to have morning sickness off and on through out your first trimester. i had it the first month and a half but these last couple of days i haven’t felt it much. i still get it a little at night but during the day i feel normal…with the exception of being tired at random times during the day. is this normal?-
ANSWER:
Oh yeah that is totally normal. Some people never even have a touch of morning sickness. So be glad yours has let up for the time being. I had it very mild but the tiredness was overwhelming, that was my BIGGEST clue i was pregnant. I was never a nap person but being pregnant has changed that. QUESTION:
Can you have morning sickness all day when you first become pregnant?
Can you feel sick to your stomache besides in the morning in the first few weeks of your pregnancy.? and get sick when you smell things like tuna.?-

Yep, morning sickness should just be called pregnancy sickness, because you can get it at any time. During the first trimester I feel sick all day long, and it sucks. Smells can definitely set it off, as your sense of smell becomes much more acute when you’re pregnant.

QUESTION:
First Time Pregnancy ??: Did you experience morning sickness or overall sickness during your first pregnancy?
I am having absolutely no morning sickness/or/all day sickness. I’m curious to know if it’s just because it’s my first pregnancy.Did anyone else experience this during their first pregnancy? Is this like just a 1st time pregnancy thing or does it depend on the person? Finally, what gender baby did you wind up having (for fun)?
Thanks!
-
ANSWER:
Everyone is so different. Some people feel sick in the evening. Some are sick all day every day. So are sick for just the first trimester. Some for the whole pregnancy. And some poor few even still have it when breastfeeding!Personally, I had nausea but no vomiting. Mainly in the first trimester. It was only when I didnt eat enough/on time. I could never ever let myself go hungry or it was the end for me! So I always had a bag of snacks with me (fruit, crackers, cheese, nuts and raisins etc)
I had a little boy on the 30/09/2009

QUESTION:
My wife is pregnant, should I worry when the morning sickness stop before the first 3 months?
my wife is two month pregnant, and she’s been going through all the morning sickness. Now that she doesn’t feel any of those simptoms, she thinks that something is wrong..Should she worry? or is this normal?-
ANSWER:
No, Morning sickness varies with every person/pregnancy.I’m not a ‘sicky’ person and with 2 pregnancies was only physically sick twice with each. Some people are sick passed the 3 months, some all the way through.
Unless she was throwing up none stop and wasn’t able to eat etc, I don’t think there’d be cause for concern… Maybe if you’re still concerned you could call nhs24 or speak to a midwife/dr to set your mind at ease.

QUESTION:
Anyone have bad morning sickness with their first but NOT with your second?
I am almost 5 weeks and so far feel great. With my daughter I was sick immediately. I was wondering if anyone else didn’t get sick with their second one?I still expect it to happen but hope not, lol.
-
ANSWER:
I had relatively late onset morning sickness with my first (from about 8 weeks to 16).With my second one, I’m now 15 weeks along and haven’t had any at all. I’ve felt a little “crappy” from time to time, but nothing nearly as bad as last time. And thank goodness, because morning sickness was bad enough when it was just me – I can’t imagine dealing with morning sickness and a toddler!
Hope you end up without it this time too!

QUESTION:
severe morning sickness first time, what about 2nd.?
I am 7 weeks pregnant and just nauseous, no vomiting…yet. With my daughter I had hyperemisis gravidarum (severe morning sickness) I threw up every day until my 3rd trimester and then it was every other day or so. I heard you get morning sickness worse with girls and this time I feel like I’m having a boy. My question is I want to know if anyone had really bad morning sickness with their first and then got to experience what most women do, morning sickness ending around the 2nd trimester or earlier with their second. If you didn’t have severe morning sickness with your first I still would like to know how it was with your subsequent children. thankyou.-
ANSWER:
I had pretty bad morning sickness with all 3 of my boys…especially with my 3rd one..It felt like I had the flu..=) All of my morning sickness with them ended by my second trimester. But I’m pregnant again and I’ve had hardly ANY morning sickness…this has been a pretty easy pregnancy for me so far.

What usually comes first? Morning sickness or positive preg test?
Sooooo….. Since I got off birth control about 4 months ago I have not gotten a period yet, I was on birth control for 2 years and got my period every single month, but always had irregular periods before that. Now my husband and I are TTC, I have been feeling kinda nauseous lately, but not enough for me to throw up or anything, so could that be a sign of possible morning sickness? I have already taken a preg test and it came out negative. But still, I have been feeling like this for the past few days now.. Could it all be in my head?-
ANSWER:
it could be… sometimes you start to convince yourself that ur feeling symptoms of pregnancy for hope (or in my case fear) that u may be pregnant… you will have to wait and see if any tests come out positive… but you never know- it may just be that you’re actually going to become a mummy!!! good luck!!
