Joint pain and arthritis are caused by a swelling around the joints. The cause is not well know but some feel it is hereditary, and injuries can be a cause and so is gout.

When losing weight it will help take the pressure off the joints, thus causing a little less pain. Diet and exercise can make a person more comfortable and make day to day living a little less painful.

Eating healthy is a good way to start. A body needs minerals, vitamins and nutrients. This will give you lots of energy if you keep these in balance. Think about the food groups and make sure you eat the right amounts of grains, vegetables, milk, fruit, beans and other proteins. Only eat when you are hungry, and stop eating when you are full.

Eating right will give you more energy, help you lose weight, thus causing less pressure on the joints. This needs to be a way of life, not a temporary diet. You will feel better and be able to cope with the joint pain better.

Some people are afraid to workout, because they are afraid of further injury and pain. This is not true, you cannot make yourself worse by exercising. This will make you more flexible, give some pain relief, and help reduce swelling. The time you workout is very important, to improve the pain from this disease. The exercise can be moderate, do not strain yourself, just do the same thing on a regular basis.

Start with something easy like walking, biking, etc. If you are afraid to do these then consider water walking or swimming. These are all great ways to start an exercise program. Going on the internet you can even find suggested exercises that will help you. If you are a golfer then golf. Some people like yoga. Starting off with stretching exercises will get you ready for your workout.

Talking to your doctor is very important, discuss what you plan on doing for exercise. Your doctor might suggest some kind of physical therapy in which they will tell you what to do and possibly give some devices to help you, without causing additional stress on your joints.

Over the counter pain medications are abundant. There are lotions and ointments and pills to help with pain. Experimenting to see what works for you is the best thing to do. This disease is a chronic one so learning to live with it is very important. Consistency is needed to eat well all the time and to exercise. Doing these things on occasion will not help. Taking control over your body is what is needed to make the best of this joint pain.

Controlling this illness is the best a person can do. Living life to the fullest and having a good quality of life can only be done when we take care of ourselves. Take the time to make a plan of action now and be consistent and follow it daily.
